I still remember the first day I met Derrick + Markisha. It was at our local Barnes + Noble café, just after Christmas. Anyone that knows me, knows that I can’t stand being late (or when other people are late).. it just simply gives me anxiety! When I came in, they had already been there, waiting for ME for almost an hour! I remember thinking to myself “now here’s a couple who thinks like me!”. After talking for just a few minutes, I knew I HAD to be part of their love story!
A couple months later, I had the pleasure of getting to know this amazing couple a little better when I documented their engagement session that you can see here. It was then that I realized, I wanted to be Markisha’s best friend! haha! but seriously, they are both such unique and kind souls, anyone who meets them would happily say the same.
There are so many parts of Markisha + Derrick’s wedding day that I hold near and dear to my heart. From the raw and emotional groom’s reaction to seeing his bride for the first time, to the dancing and laughter shared by the wedding party, I loved it all! But as a mother to a little boy, I think Derrick’s last dance with his mom really hit home to me. As the song “Mama” by Boyz 2 Men started playing, Derrick grabbed hold of his mom so tight and started crying right there on the dance floor. His mom happily held him and cried right along with him, but then she motioned for Markisha to take her place not only on the dance floor, but in Derrick’s arms as well. I could barely keep my camera straight, I was crying so hard! <3
I swear I could go on + on about these two love birds +their special day! Congratulations to the new Mr. + Mrs. Johnson! May every day, be a memorable as this one! <3
